"sm70- why not Duesenberg?" (sm70-whynotduesenberg)

Over the last few months, I held a comparison test between three high-performance luxury SUVs. This test was completely unbeknownst to the makers of those SUVs, the owners, or anybody but me. The contest was simple: Which would I see on the streets in my area first: A Range Rover Sport SVR, a Tesla Model X, or a Bentley Bentayga? Technically this contest ended two months ago when I saw a blue SVR parked outside a local pizza joint, but as we all know, SR20 or it doesn’t count. So today I present you the winner of my little contest, the surprisingly attractive (for a blob) and stupidly quick (for a four-wheeled vehicle) Tesla Model X P90D. Yessir, this is one fast egg.

The front end is so nice and the rear end ... isn’t.

Tesla’s car design in general doesn’t do it for me. I can see the appeal, but it’s like doing 90% of the right thing then completely fumbling that last 10%.

The problem is people buy the SVR because it’s fast so you can never get a picture, myself included! While yuppies drive Model Xs...

I’m surprised I haven’t seen an X yet. There are SO MANY Ses running around my area that I figured once the X was out someone would buy their wife one.

The panel gap variation on that hatch is bad. Like, wouldn’t look out of place on an Aveo bad.

We saw our first wrecked (minor bumper cover damage) Tesla at the shop about three weeks ago. It was the first Tesla I have put my hands on. We declined the repair.
When the vehicle owner asked us why, we said, “We prefer to make sure the spaces between the body panels are even and aligned. We can’t duplicate work like this from a factory.”
We then proceeded to walk the car and show the owner the variations in the fitting and panel gaps on virtually every surface of the car. I think the walk-around with people that actually know cars was a painful eye-opener for him.
Truthfully, I was surprised at how poorly the entire vehicle was fitted.

All I can say is that I didn’t notice it in person, but really didn’t look.

I’m amazed by the people I see on here once and a while who are like, “Saw my first Model S!”
I could close my eyes and throw a baseball in any given direction and chances are I’d be replacing the window on a Tesla.

They’re not QUITE common up here, since our closes Tesla store is in IL, but in the ‘burbs where I live they are more common than in the city.

Our closest Tesla store is three hours away in KC, but that hasn’t seemed to stop anyone.
